The power of Gebr. van den Eijnden consists of the bundling of expertise from various internationally operating companies around the world. This way your move is well organised.

How we work

At the first contact we will make an inventory of your wishes for the move. In order to make a quotation, we then need an idea of volume. For an initial price indication, this can be done using an inventory list. However, in order to provide a complete quotation, we would like to make an appointment for a survey. Depending on the location, this may involve a home visit by one of our surveyores, a video survey or an appointment through a local partner.

In 4 steps

Step 1

Pre-move survey

Visit from a surveor by appointment, or a video survey. This involves making an inventory of what needs to be moved and what your wishes and questions are. A tailor-made quotation is made based on this personal inventory.

Step 2

Planning and appointments

Upon acceptance of this quotation, a plan will be made together with you. Moving dates are scheduled, sea freight or other transport booked if necessary and you will be informed about required documentation for customs clearance, for example.

Step 3

The removal

The move itself, during which we will keep you informed throughout the entire process. Even when we work with partners, we remain your main point of contact.

Step 4

Aftercare

After the move, we will check whether everything is in order and we love to hear your experiences and feedback!

What do you need to arrange yourself?

Besides the services we offer, there are also things you need to take care of yourself when moving to the Netherlands. Below, we discuss the most important points:

1. Registering with a municipality

As soon as you arrive in the Netherlands, you need to register with the municipality where you will be living. This is essential to be officially registered in the population register (BRP). You can find more information and make arrangements through the Central Government.

2. Take out health insurance

Everyone living in the Netherlands is obliged to take out Dutch health insurance. You have three months after arrival to do so. More information on choosing a health insurer and your obligations can be found on the Central Government website.

3. Taking care of your banking affairs

When you move to the Netherlands, you will need a Dutch bank account to pay your rent and fixed expenses, for example. You can make an appointment for this at a bank of your choice, such as ING, ABN AMRO or Rabobank. Make sure you bring a valid identity document and your BSN number (obtained after registering with the municipality).

4. Taxes and benefits

Depending on your situation, you will also have to take taxes and possible benefits into account. For an overview of which taxes apply and how to apply for benefits, please visit the website of the Tax Administration.

Although we at Gebr. Van Den Eijnden will take care of many logistical and administrative tasks for you, there are some things you will have to arrange yourself. However, with our support, your move to the Netherlands will be a lot easier!

Moving back to the Netherlands: keep this in mind

If you are planning to move back to the Netherlands, there are a number of important issues involved. Remigrating can be a complex process, and it is essential to be well-prepared. Besides organising your move, there are also practical and administrative matters to consider. Below, we discuss the most important points to arrange when moving back to the Netherlands.

1. Registering in the Key Register of Persons (BRP)

As soon as you live in the Netherlands again, you have to register with the municipality where you reside. You do this in the Basic Registration of Persons (BRP). Registration is crucial to obtain your citizen service number (BSN), which gives you access to important services such as healthcare and tax matters. More information on the registration procedure can be found on the central government website.

2. Reactivating your health insurance

When emigrating back to the Netherlands, you are obliged to take out Dutch healthcare insurance within four months of your remigration. If you have lived in the Netherlands before, you will have to reactivate your old health insurance or choose a new one. Check carefully which insurance best suits your personal situation. For more information, please visit the website of the Central Government.

3. Opening or reactivating a bank account

It is useful to get your banking in order quickly. If you still have a Dutch bank account from before you emigrated, you can often easily reactivate it. Don’t have a Dutch account yet? Then you can open a new one at one of the Dutch banks such as ING, Rabobank or ABN AMRO. Make sure you have a valid ID and your BSN number to hand.

4. Tax matters and benefits

When moving back to the Netherlands, your tax position may change. Consider updating your tax details with the Dutch Tax Administration, especially if you received income abroad. It is also important to check whether you are eligible for benefits such as rent or healthcare benefits. You can find all the information you need on the website of the Tax Administration.

5. Importing removal goods

When you take your household goods with you when you remigrate, you need to take into account customs regulations. You can often import goods tax-free, provided they have been in your possession for at least six months. We at Gebr. Van Den Eijnden will help you arrange the correct import documents so that this goes smoothly. Make sure you fill in the right forms and apply for any duty-free import permits.

6. Housing and accommodation

Of course, when moving back to the Netherlands, you will also need to arrange suitable housing. Whether you are staying with family temporarily or looking for a rental or owner-occupied house straight away, it is smart to arrange this well in advance. This can often be done through Dutch rental platforms or housing associations. Keep in mind possible waiting times for rental properties.

The process of moving back to the Netherlands can be challenging, but with the right preparation and support from, for example, a specialised moving company like Gebr. Van Den Eijnden, the transition will be a lot easier.

What does it cost to move (back) to the Netherlands?

The cost of moving (back) to the Netherlands can vary greatly, as every move is tailor-made. There are several factors that affect the total cost of your move. It is important to consider these when planning your remigration.

Factors determining costs

  • Distance and location: The cost of your move largely depends on where you are moving. For example, a move within Europe is usually more economical than an intercontinental move. The further the distance, the higher the transport costs, especially if sea or air freight is required.
  • Content of your household contents: The more items you move, the larger the required means of transport and the higher the costs. We can help you estimate your contents through an inventory, so you know exactly where you stand.
  • Customs and import formalities: If you are moving to the Netherlands from outside the EU, there are often additional costs for customs and import formalities. This includes the cost of completing the correct documents, such as customs declarations and import permits. We can guide you through this process to ensure everything goes smoothly.
  • Storage facilities: Sometimes your new home is not ready yet, or you want to temporarily store your contents. At Van Den Eijnden, we offer secure storage facilities. The cost for this depends on the duration of storage and the quantity of goods.
  • Additional services such as packing and unpacking: Want to make things easy on yourself? We offer full packing and unpacking services. This may increase the cost, but will save you a lot of time and stress. In addition, we make sure your belongings are professionally packed for maximum protection during transport.

Request a customised quotation

Because so many factors come into play, we can determine the exact cost of your move only after a comprehensive inventory. We therefore invite you to request a free moving quote via our website. That way, we can let you know exactly what your move to or back to the Netherlands will cost, based on your specific wishes and situation.
